Samson and Sidney are two very important members of Kevin and Anita Highet’s family. So important in fact, that the handsome black Labradors could not be left out of the arrangements when Kevin and Anita decided to get married at All Saints Church, Long Whatton in Leicestershire.
The couple was thrilled when Vicar, Gill Turner-Callis, said the dogs were welcome in church.
Wearing white bow ties for the occasion, Samson and Sidney lay quietly at the back of the church while the service took place, but they did get a mention in the sermon.
Gill said, ‘Dogs and other pets do become part of a family and their loyalty and devotion to people can often be a source of strength, companionship and friendship, in good times and bad. It was a pleasure to have Samson and Sidney in church and acknowledge them as a significant part of Kevin and Anita’s story.’
‘We had an absolutely wonderful wedding day,’ said Kevin, ‘Gill was just superb.’
Gill has conducted other weddings which have included dogs. She has just got her own dog, a Rottie-Labrador cross called Smartie.
