Village rallies for star's church wedding

Lily and Sam

Lily and Sam

Villagers in Cranham, Gloucestershire, gathered outside St James the Great church in June to cheer and wave to singer Lily Allen and her fiancé Sam Cooper on their wedding day.

The bride arrived at the church in a beautiful traditional gown and was greeted by village well-wishers alongside the paparazzi.

The Revd Michael Irving, who took the wedding said: “Lily and Sam are a couple full of love and devotion to one another. Their wedding was a very joyful occasion with support from many villagers who have welcomed the couple into the community just like any other young newlyweds. They’re so grateful for that.”

The wedding featured popular traditional hymns with organ accompaniment, including Jerusalem, Lord of the Dance and Make Me A Channel of Your Peace.

One Bible reading is always included in a church wedding and Lily and Sam chose  Colossians 3 12-17.

The happy couple are touched by the warmth of the community and the support of the church since they became local people.
