We had a double wedding

Wayne & Laura and Sonny & Kerry

When Kerry and Laura Hamilton married Sonny and Wayne Mabey, it was truly a double celebration.

Kerry and Sonny met 10 years ago and subsequently introduced their siblings, Laura and Wayne. When the couples became engaged and the four got on so well, it seemed to be the icing on the wedding cake that a double wedding follow.

The Revd David Baldwin, vicar of the couples’ family church in Dorset, was delighted when the siblings approached him with their plans.

He had never performed a double marriage ceremony before (and not many vicars have) so he set about consulting colleagues to make sure that he got the legalities of the ceremony correct. ‘I needed to make sure that I married the right people,’ he joked.

Each couple repeated their vows separately, but the rest of the service was a joint affair.

Kerry said ‘Everyone commented on what a good vicar David was, he made the whole process good fun and everyone felt relaxed.’  Vicar David maintains that the best way to handle weddings is to put people at their ease.

The couples chose a reading from Corinthians, Chapter 13, which talks of God’s love, and it seemed this was there in duplicate on this very special wedding day.

Kerry and Sonny live on the same farm as Laura and Wayne and still get on famously.
