We had our reception in the church
Couples wanting a chic but great value reception are opting to cater for their wedding guests in the church itself – straight after the ceremony.
St Aldates church, in Oxford, has had several couples who held their reception in the church. Kate and Ian Woods catered for almost 200 there, and said the main benefit was the church’s adaptability.
Andy and Jenny Flannagan wanted so many family and friends to be at their wedding, their ceremony and reception were merged into one a summer-fete-style celebration in the church.
Andrew and Cathy Fordyce were married at St Jude’s church, Southsea. Because they had the reception in the church, they were able to have their wedding when they wanted.
Another couple, Stuart and Vivien Mckay, who married at St John’s Community church, Bruntwood, said they saved hundreds of pounds by having their reception in the church.
Many churches are very open to having the wedding reception either in the church, or in a nearby church hall, so it’s worth asking the Vicar if this is something you’d like to explore for your wedding. For more information, see our press release.
