Michelle and Derek phoned their Vicar to ask about christening their son, Jake. By the time the conversation ended, they had arranged to get married at the same time.
"We wouldn’t have done it if it hadn’t been for the baptism," laughs Michelle, "but I don’t think a marriage is ‘proper’ unless it is in front of God".
The Revd Moira Slack, from All Saints Church, Stretford in Manchester, helped the couple to keep their big news a secret until the big day. When guests arrived they were told that the family were running a bit late. Then Michelle walked down the aisle on her dad’s arm.
The couple’s daughters, who were bridesmaids and ring bearers that day, followed their mum. Jake and Derek stood waiting at the altar.
The Vicar said, "We are here today to christen Jake – however there will also be a wedding!"
The wedding was planned in two short months, and was made possible with the help of family, who were in on the secret.
It was a very relaxed occasion, without any pressure, just as the couple had wanted.
"We all walked out of church as a family, just how we wanted it to be," said Michelle.
