We thought we couldn't marry in church

Lyn and Troye

“We didn’t think we would be able to get married in church because Lyn had been divorced and I was Jewish…but we were so overwhelmed and happy when we found that we could.”

Wheelchair rugby player, Troye Collins, (35) and his wife Lynn (33) were married in December 2007 at All Saints Church, Rampton. They described the wedding as a day they will never forget.

“It was very important for Lyn to be married in church and it felt like God saying to her: ‘You are starting a new life and you can begin again’. For someone like myself, not as religious, it turned out to be a very special day, everything we ever wanted and more." said Troye


I felt a sense of being relaxed and felt the support of everyone around. The wedding in church helped cement our relationship.

The Revd Felicity Ferriter, who married Troye and Lyn, said: “It was one of the most unusual weddings I have ever done – honouring the Christian marriage and the Jewish tradition as well, but it was an amazing experience. Troye was in training for the Paralympics and there were a large number of disabled guests, which was special too.”
