BBC Songs of Praise Weddings Special

Weddings were the special focus of Songs of Praise on BBC 2 last Sunday, July 5th.

St Cuthbert’s Church, Ormesby, starred in the programme after Pam Rhodes and the Songs of Praise team came to film at the church in April.

Real Wedding couples featured here on yourchurchwedding.org were also interviewed about their weddings. They were Jessica and Joe and Lyn and Troye

The Revd Robert Brown, vicar of St Cuthbert’s Church, said, “When the Songs of Praise team wanted to film a special programme about weddings in church, it was only natural that they should come to us.

"With over 60 weddings a year, St Cuthbert’s is one of the nation’s most popular churches to be married in. We were delighted to star in their programme, and they came to Ormesby in April to film the wedding of Stewart and Paula Hopes.”

Stewart Hopes said, “It was great to have our wedding filmed for national television – there’s not many couples who can say that! The Songs of Praise crew filmed Paula and her bridesmaids getting dressed up and ready in the morning, and then filmed our wedding at the church. I’m a bit nervous about seeing myself on the show on Sunday, but I can’t wait to see how the wedding looked.”

St Cuthbert’s is one of Middlesbrough’s oldest and most beautiful churches. Standing in wooded grounds adjacent to Ormesby Hall, there has been a church on the site for 1,200 years. There are regular Sunday services at 9am and 10.30am, and the church is open to visit on the afternoons of 28th June, 26th July and 30th August.
