The role of a Verger

Wedding Verger Kate helps a guest

At some weddings the church will have a Verger on duty. They will greet your guests as they arrive at the church, showing them where to sit and handing them an Order of Service.

Kate Stanley, (29, pictured) has been a Verger at All Saints church, in Bingley, West Yorkshire, since 1998. She had been part of the congregation for many years and was pleased to take on the wedding Verger’s responsibilities.

“It’s a privilege to share in people’s special day,” said Kate, “I enjoy the welcoming part of the role and meeting so many new people. I just want to make sure people are happy and comfortable.

“Even if you aren’t used to church, there’s no need to feel on edge. I hope that by being friendly and putting people at ease, guests will feel they can let go, relax and enjoy the wedding celebration.”
