The role of a Verger

Kate helps a wedding guest

The Verger will ensure the church is clean and tidy before your wedding and that everything is ready for the service.

As well as keeping the church spick and span, a Verger can help bands or other hired musicians get set up on the day and can also help advise photographers on suitable places in the church for taking pictures.

For people not used to church, a Verger can be a reassuring presence and they will do all they can to make people feel welcome and comfortable as they arrive.

They can also assist if there are guests who require special needs, such as wheelchair access or large print service sheets.

A Verger is there to help and guide, so do look out for them at weddings and feel free to ask for anything if you need it.
